Regional field access

DAO pilots its own aircraft for site visits, supplier meetings and construction reviews across Ontario.

An architect who can be on site.

Projects outside the major centres rarely get regular visits from their design team. Our principal, Patrick Danielson, is a pilot, and the practice keeps its own aircraft so distance doesn't limit how often we see a site.

This is a real competitive advantage for our clients: more site visits, faster answers during construction and lower travel costs for remote projects.

What it means for a project.

Site review

Visits on short notice

Same-day visits across much of Ontario, weather permitting, including Northern sites far from any office.

Construction

Regular construction administration

Visits follow the construction schedule, so questions get answered on site.

Suppliers

Supplier and fabricator coordination

We visit suppliers and fabricators, such as mass timber producers, during design and production.

Cost

Less time on the road

Less travel time on distant projects means lower costs and fewer overnight stays.

Two bases

Sudbury and Ottawa

Our team is spread between two major provincial hubs, with immediate access to projects in the surrounding areas.

Remote office

We come to you

We work as a remote office across Ontario. We come to you, or arrange a meeting wherever suits you.

From idea to construction.

Most projects start with a short call and a look at the property. If the next step isn't clear, we start with a feasibility review. Because we fly, we can be on site at every stage, not only at the start and the end.

  1. Property

Site review, existing records, 3D scans and a map of the constraints. On a distant site, the first visit is often by air.

  2. Planning

Feasibility, rezoning, minor variances, site plan and other approvals.

  3. Design

Concept options, cost modelling where useful, visualisation and documentation, with visits to suppliers and fabricators.

  4. Delivery

Consultant coordination, building permit and construction administration, with site visits that follow the construction schedule.
